sump becoming skimmer!

Recommended Posts

dear bros, i just converted from canister to sump. Currently using an overflow pipe, but the main thing is that there's alot of foam! My sump is like a bubble bath! At first i thought maybe it's because there's air in the overflow, then i ran my skimmer, which also became like a foam machine. Is this normal? anyone please advise!

On 2nd thought, I strongly believe you didn't tune you skimmer. Reason, look at the clear tube that is a suppose to lead to the external collection cup (if there is one). It's is flowing water out through there. This is definitely a Macro.

Agreed. A macro. the bubble should have been cause by it. It needs tuning. maentime just tied stocking to the output

bros dont' be confused hor, that is not a picture of my tank, although the situation is very similar. and i also am using a macro needlewheel but my air tubes and collection tubes are properly put in place. Didn't add any additivies or anything, just saltwater and old filter media. Also, when i say skimmer give foam, i don't mean the outlet giving foam but skimmer itself. Foam until i actually removed the collection cup so that the foam can just spill over.

HELP!!! *bloop bloop...bubbles everywhere*

Can you list your skimmer and what flowrate is the pump.

We can plug anything off the sky and say this is the problem you are facing now, right? You shouldn't have post another reefers picture coz this confuse pple with your problem.

Wrong Picture = Wrong solution = !@#$%^&*

bro relax abit, go back and check, i didn't post the pic, it's just that other people posted a picture of the similar situation, and other people commented on it. note i said similar not the same. Currently using as100p(needlewheel) with default pump which is 1200lph.

The main thing is the turbulence from the overflow pipe output generates foam in the sump. The skimmer also generating alot of foam, to the point i removed the collection cup.

So all I'm asking if this is normal phenomena or if anyone has an explanation why the sump water so 'foamy'

Q

1. Is this NSW or salt mix? If salt mix, which brand?

2. Is this phenomenon still ongoing?

firstly, i am not a macro user, but have heard about the length of the pipe connecting pump to skimmer and also the depth in which the pump is submerged into the water that has some effect on the skimmer.

I may be wrong but an experienced macro user may better help you on this.

thank you bros and all for contribution, the foaming problem has gone away. What i did was i fished out all the foam instead of just letting it hang around inside the water. In the end all the foam gave a lime green coloured liquid. Guess that's what caused my system to foam.SKimmer also collecting lime green waste.

THanks all once again.
