samchenz
Hi reefers, Anyone whose MH is above the centre bracing (12 mm)? Do u think the bracing can take the heat? Thanks.
SRC Member gift05 Posted December 27, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted December 27, 2005 i believe the water in the tank would boil first, b4 the bracing melts or cracks.
samchenz
Anyone whose MH is 2 inches above the centre bracing (12 mm)?
SRC Member wil_lee76 Posted December 27, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted December 27, 2005 bro, im not sure whether you have a hood to cover your tank? if so, then it ok to let the MH sit on the hood rather than the tank itself. hope that helps. for mine, it sits on my hood...its about 6 inch clearances (if im not wrong!) samchenz
Hi, Actually my MH sits on the hood as well, just that its at the center and 2 inch above the centre bracing....
SRC Member Tigger Posted December 27, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted December 27, 2005 If yr Mh is shield w glass, I dont see why the centre bracing cannot take the heat.
SRC Member shoelevy Posted December 27, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted December 27, 2005 frankly, i wouldn't advise on testing your glass tolerance to the heat by mounting it so near the glass...alternate expansion n contraction when it heats up and cool down can add unnecessary stress to the glass also, as it heats up, the expansion may cause the centre bracing to push out on the front and back glass panels of the tank...maybe your tank can withstand it for now...but as it ages...i wouldn't count on it. just my thoughts
