Fish MIA- What to do?

Bought a yellow wrasse a week ago. Saw it briefly for the 1st 2 days and was never seen again.

How would I know if it is still alive? Was told that it was not advisable to go dig for it. But I only have a 2-footer and is worried that a dead fish might crash the tank.

Pls advise. :thanks:

Have 2 turbo snails & a cleaner shrimp

Other LS includes a six line, a b/w butterflyfish, a false clown & 2 firefish.

Just saw the wrasse briefly this evening. lying on one of the rocks, the eyes looked puffy. Wonder if it will survive.......

Not sure if there's a crab hiding in the rocks. Thought I caught them. But saw the cleaner shrimp tearing up one. Don't know if it was just a shell or the crab. (lost a couple of fish to crab. )

IMO, if you do not have any aggressive fish in the tank, it is better to release directing after aclimation (to save the new fish from further stress in the beta box).

if there is aggressive fish... then it is better to let them say hello for a few days before release :D:D

Thanks for the advise andtsq.

I think the 6 line likes to check out new fishes. My clown was a bully when it was in my 1-footer. Now it's been kept in line by the 6line.

Guess i'd better put new fish in beta. Those two seems to be a bit bossy for comfort. :)

A dead/rotting Yellow Wrasse will not crash your tank if you have a workable protein skimmer... maybe what you can do is do a 10% water change weekly (if you are not already doing so). Don't worry bro... your tank will not crash so easily... unless it's a rotten Anemone

Agree with bro andtsg... some Wrasses require sand bed for them to hide for resting or whenever they feel threaten... being in a betta box can be quite stressful for wrasses (if not for all fishes). Imagine being trapped in a tank within a tank ;)

Saw movement in the sand earlier in the evening when I moved some rocks to catch a crab. (This one quite big <_< )

Guess the fish is still alive. :)

Many thanks to all the bros for the advise.

Bro Ming,

Not to worry too MUCH as I had my kole tang, naso tang ,blenny and er.... many fishes which also disappeared in my tank. :fear: P>S not all died at the same time, its so far these few fishes that died periodically over some time.

So far, yet to see their remains (Skeleton ) So not to worry too much. should not spike ur water perimeter greatly unless its a BIG fish
