OMG! Look at these hybrids and rare fishes!

Recommended Posts

There is true shepardi and "fake" shepardi which is a hybrid of rusty and flame..

The real shepardi is only found in Guam and there is very limited/no collection there.. Only recently there is a collection which collected some shepardi which is sold in US market..

Those "shepardi" that we get are from philippines region which are hybrid of rusty and flame, and yes flame is found in philippines...

But the difference is very minute and it really varies with the hybrid, you could get one hybrid that looks a lot like the real shepardi.. Whether it is shepardi or not as long as you like the fish, I think it wun make a difference, unless you die die want a real shepardi..

Oic, thanks for enlightening.

Found a oddball fish to aim for... It is not a temperate species and often caught in drag net..

Anyone wanna guess what is this fish?

Triacanthodes Anomalus

Regular foodfish in japanese market. Caught in abundance with Macroramphosus scolopax in deepwater.

Temp is low, below 20 deg.

Common exhibit together with Macroramphosus scolopax and plectranthias kellogi in many jap aquarium as their deepwater local water fishes.

Undesirable for standard reef tank.

Japanese reefers keep them but never long term.

As usual, only you know the answer.. No fun.. Haha.. I dun mind giving it a try if it is not expensive to obtain from Japanese supplier.. I think should be easier than scolopax although the mouth still seems small..

Still trying to find one after the last dejongi shipment didn't make it to us.. was quite skeptical if dejongi really is having the real frenchii. .

Your taste is reli out of the ordinary! Frenchii is rare becos it is a west aussie fish, not found very deep but still rarely collected maybe becos it is a huge fish and small ones ideal for tank captivity is not easily encountered in the wild.

Haha.. I always like weird fishes.. But there is still an extend of weirdness in the fishes That I like.. long nose batfish is one fish that I dun like and it is weird.

From what know from some Japanese reefer, a few small ones made it to Japan as usual.. But can't remember how much was it, not a very ex fish even tHough it is rare to find..
