Suggest you get rid of the ceremic rings as over time will contribute to an increase in Nitrate level in your tank . Even whenI had a nano previously I got rid of my ceramic rings in my sump as advised by a lot of reefers. .

Cheers.

ok noted...thks...how about if i were to use bio home instead? will it be better?

i did the same as many reefers... remove all my bio rings n bio balls... now using small live rocks in place of them... i had some chaeto... however i cant hav the luxury of a skimmer... mine is juz a small nc12 gal...

Will be a definate better choice as it will be able to house much more of the effective bacteria required for better water quality.

ok...saw at sea view aquarium at seletar farmway selling $12/kg...is this price considered ok? or does anyone noe of a cheaper alternative? Iwarna? cos i will be going down this sat to get some live rocks...around 2.5kg and a few tongas if the price is ok...pretty broke already haha

I've never used bio home before so I dunno the pricing. But from what i've read abt it , it seems benificial to the tank.. But for me when I had my nano. i left my sump bare and just did regular water changes once a week or once every 2 weeks. abt 10 - 20% each time. And further more I had corals in my tank whereas you are gonna run a fowlr setup. So should not be a problem

Just a question, how long did you let you tank run before you introduced the fish?

1 wk...i used some (see my initial picture) uncured and cured live rocks and live sand to cycle my tank...after 1 wk, my NH3, No2 are 0, NO3 is less than 5

You shld try out LPS with soft coral first then slowly introduce some sps since this system has HQI shouldn't waste it...

1ft cube with IOS [the low tech tank]

1. JBJ C-breeze to keep temp hovering around 27-28'C

2. LED clip on - 120 bulbs

-skimmer-less-

My 3 humble equipments that keeps my tank running... [DRIED OUT]

1. The RSM itself of course 2.My NEW Deltec MCE-300 Skimmer 3. My trusty Arctica Chiller

Tank parameters:

Temperature maintained at 25.3'C to 24.7'C

No3: 10ppm(b4 the use of the deltec skimmer)

No3: 5ppm (after use of the skimmer)

Others? too lazy to measure...LOL

Camera- EOS 50D

haha yup..will consider tat...bt i will only try corals after getting all my fishes n shrimps hehe a few more to go...n i luv the fishes more than i like corals :) i will nid to get a chiller oso for corals...currently the temp of my tank with 2 fans blowing the back, the lowest it can get is 27-28 during daytime...normal temp w/o the fans is ard 30...consider too high for corals...bt haf nt tried running the fans overnite to save on my electricty bill as nite time is usually cooler and well as to minimize the rate of water evaporation....

how do i noe it is a gd time to add a new fish? cos currently i juz added 3 into my tank, i'm sure the bio load will oso increase greatly and the bacteria may nid some time to expand to handle the increased bio load. I haf oso juz removed the existing ceramic rings frm the tank and replaced them with new bio home and bio home plus...the existing ceramic rings were from the ex-owner of the tank...what will be a gd indicator for me that its ok to add a new fish in? NH3? NO2? or?

Ammonia 0... Nitrite 0... if possible nitrate also 0...( though mine hav nv reach 0 before)... pH ard 8.1-8.3 will be fine... that would be the best conditions... of cos the rest such as salinity n temp muz also be stable..
