Someone just shoot me. This is what happens when you top up water to your sump from a tap and conveniently forget about it.

First pic shows black ocellaris. Second pic the black ocellaris have all been buried in perculas.

sad.. :(

are the parents ok?

If a man could beat his own fantasy. Then to only breed in captivity. Then its pointless.

Genesis 1:20

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

The parents are ok, they are in a separate system. Don't know why but losing 1000-2000 fish like this does'nt seem to affect me as bad as I thought it would. I'm just telling myself : "s**t happens, just move on". Probably need to pop some pills to boost my memory as well.

Sorry for your loss... I do make notes on Post-Its to remind me of tasks that I need to do with my tank. Perhaps you can think of a way to help remind you. Alarms are good too.

I should probably be wearing an electric choker that will shock me each time my sump tank overflows. 2kg+ worth of clownfish gone in just less than 12 hours. :cry2:

That's quite some loss you got there. But I'm sure you come back stronger than before.

Sorry to hear your loss. I also had the same problem with direct tap water in the past. Now Kiaxi, store tap water for 1 - 2 days before WC.

he top up with water from a DI unit. but he left it running and forgot about it. so his salinity drop until very low. that's why this accident happen.

Good thing is I managed to save around 3 black ocellaris, 17 percula clowns. I learnt that clownfish are really tough things. They were half dead in 1.005 s.g, I put them straight into 1.020+ s.g seawater in like few seconds and after an hour all are behaving normally and even feeding. They did'nt die from sudden salinity shock surprisingly.

Sorry for your loss truly bro! GOD! Just be careful next time yeah. Or why not install a float switch for your DI unit to your sump. Auto cut off the moment the water is topped up to the correct level?

How does that sound to you bro?

Anyway, :rip: for your clowns.

Come back stronger yeah! (:

Peace out bro.

Happy Reefing,

Hey bro, sorry to hear of your losses, may they be in fishy heaven :friends:

guess mother nature has constructed all living creatures to have that fighting will to survive and overcome extreme conditions, and your remaining clowns are prime example of it! :peace:

" The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people! "

It's interesting that the babies did not die from salinity shock.

What are their age and what salinity were they in before the incident happened?
