I did see LEDs supplemented with blue T5 at Iwarna and Aquamarin main tank. Whats interesting is aquamarin is using/testing this combo on SPS corals; there's quite a fair bit on youtube about soft corals and LPS fairing better than SPS under LEDs. I would like to find out more from them when the time comes.

For visual difference, their left main tank is running LED+T5 combo while right is just T5 and I have to say LEDs shimmer nicely

Yes, the LED shimmer adding to the T5 providing the better spectrum will be the best. The LED also provide higher and better PAR level for the SPS.

I voted for LED as I just changed from T5 to LED. Was poisoned by Evolutionz when I saw his lights at his home when buying corals from him. I first upgraded my freshwater tank to 8000k led and now my mini pico tank to 16000k led.

Tank: 3.5ft x 2ft x 1.5ft, 12mm

Sump: 3ft

Skimmer: Bubble Magus Curve 7

Lightings: Maxspect 15000k

Return Pump: Eheim 1252

Wavemaker: Jebao WP25, Jebao RW-8

I switch from leds/T5 combo to full T5 after I witness the differences in colour change from those sps directly under my mazarra P led and those under my cheap aquazonic T5 light set. For sps growth led faster, for colours T5 better. For lps both led and T5 are equally good. These are my own personal non biased opinion, take it with pinch of salt. There are alot of led lit sps tanks with beautiful colours online especially reef central. It just not suitable for my tank. So my vote is on T5. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

I still believe LED will be the answer in the long run. Only our understanding of LED at this point of time is still at infancy stage

LED is 50/50, depend on tuner, T5 is 100% proven, idiot proof....that's all I can say.

Actually to me i think its about the same. Led uses lesser energy but coverage not as wide as t5 so end up need more leds. But one thing for sure led contribute less heat to the water.

Bro...just a FYI, there are LED strips that uses CREE, Nicha, Samsung, Sharp LED chips. But the $$$ is quite different...

These led strip are running at low voltage less then 3 vdc and very low current less then .5 amp.

Not a guru in LED but i have done some research.

yes i have personally asked LED supplier for nichas and the price is like 20 x the price compare to China or Taiwan made led strips. (flexible type)

in led market, nichas and cree claim to produce more light spectrum colour and the colour are richer and clearer ( example the blue are more blue), for flexible type normally come in 1w or 1.5w , the 3w and above normally come with a bigger transformer normally use for wall or stage colour decoration.

all these products are mainly use for Display lighting for product and signage.

Flexible type also mean there are no focus lens to it, unless we are talking about LED bar.

But beware of the colour temperature for strip, as they are likely to give 7k, which also means they are not idea for coral growth but use as decorative purpose.

even some reputable reef led maker come out with LED strip that say to enhance coral colour (marketing strategic)

pls read more about LED before buying one, as it is not a cheap investment.

LED has fix spec. A 660 nm led is 660 +/- ?%

A 660 nm led cannot be white or blue.

A 660 nm have 6 to 10 bins. The bin is the +/- % . The tighter they +/- % the closer it is to the spectrum u define. And also more costly. The cost different can be up to 5 to 10 time different.

So you see the price you pay for the same spec of led can be a big different. This is the same for the your power supply and current driver. Till u able to compare apple to apple the price you pay for your led light set does not tell you anything

Anyone here has the ATI power modul + LED hybrid care to share if the software is easy to navigate? Any reviews would be helpful and much appreciated.

Thanks!
