  1. Hi guys, recently have had an interesting problem that has not happened to me before, hopefully some of the water chemistry gurus can help me solve this mystery. Scenario is as such. After cycling my tank, NO3 was negligible, however, over the course of the week, my no3 has shot up to about 100 odd ppm. Thankfully, I dont have corals in my tank, and everything is doing fime and showing no signs of stress. However, I have done probably 5 water changes of 50% of my total tank volume over the week, but the NO3 JUST DOES NOT GO DOWN, but remains at the 100ppm mark. Everything is in check and I use oceanic salt mix for my water changes, with DI water. Checks have been done on the new salt water that I made, to make sure it wasnt that the test kit was faulty. I have identified that the problem could be because the LR used was from a previously decommed tank. I have also checked to make sure nothing is dead or dying. I just did 3 water changes today and ramped up my weekly bacteria dose in a futile attempt to try fight this seemingly losing battle. Anyone with any form of advice is greatly appreciated
  2. Looks like a condylactis passiflora.
  3. Yes I was looking at it too! Looks pretty good in terms of colour combination and functionality. The micmol lightset offered by one of our sponsors is also worth a look if you are looking for nano sets
  4. I do water changes and it does fine. My tank size Is similar to yours, just slightly larger. The reason why large tanks require additives is because it is very difficult and inconvenient to change that much water every week. E.g if I had a 10 gallon tank and I wanted to change 20% of my water every week, I would only need 2 gallons. However if my tank was 100 gallons, changing 20 gallons a week is really quite taxing. Also, small tanks have a smaller volume of water thus if you were to make a mistake, the results would be very drastic as compared to larger tanks with a larger volume of water for "buffer". Hope this helps.
  5. If you are on a budget, I would reccomend you to diy you own leds. Commercial leds usually quite ex, e.g maxspect razor 60w almost 40 red notes. Another option is to go for t5s , 4 tubes should be mpre than enough to sustain lps and softies.
  6. By the way, that tank is probably one of the nicest FOWLR's I have seen by far! Amazing achilles tang comm.
  7. I fully agree with you, however, there definitely is a better way to resolve this other than criticising the remark that was stated. We are all here to learn more from each other, not to put each other down.
  8. The term torture is his opinion. Yes it is not nice, but there is no need to flame him am I right? everyone has and will always have their own opinions. To correct someome is one thing, to intentionally flame is another.
  9. Guys everyone is entitled to their own opinion, each take a step back yeah.
  10. Hi guys, since the topic has been brought up, I'd like to share a source of information I chanced upon while wondering the exact same thing. http://www.3reef.com/forums/coral/how-color-up-your-corals-71882.html#.UkLCR2EZ5PH This is the link, its a great compilation of multiple articles pertaining to the topic. Its about 200+ pages, for those who want to clear doubt you'd probably find your answer somewhere in there.
  11. Might want to check your phosphates as well. Fuel recently shared that for nitrates to go down, phosphates need to be present. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone. I personally have never experienced such a phenomena, however it could be a cause.
  12. Thanks spgohjc! I agree fully, because with the space constraint in a nano, it really is difficult to build a rock scape that you like and can work with. Kudos to all those who have made brilliant scapes. I however am not happy with mine yet, will tweak over the next few days and show you guys again ^^
  13. Yeah I thought your nanos were damn amazing hahaha. Heres a picture after the water cleared up
  14. Hello all, its been awhile and I usually dont post much anyway haha. Before I start, would like to give a huge thanks to those who have had given me advice and inspiration, for without you I wouldnt be here today. Also a big special thanks to lemon for guiding me! Admiraltian, your thread has given me the most inspiration by far, thanks! This is my new tank, p.s im a fan of open scapes and simplistic setups My current eq list Tank - 2ft x 1 x 1 curved edge Filtration - shiruba 1000 (720 l/h) hob Light - using my old mini 30 + all blue stunner for now Skimmer - BM NAC QQ ( I strongly stand by this skimmer , has saved me on countless occasions) Wavemaker - some chinese 2000 l/h wave maker. Decided to try because it looked good and was damn cheap. Current stocklist 1 x true perc 1 x yellow blue damsel 1 x blood shrimp 1 x coco worm These guys have been my loyal followers so the tank is actually a reward for them hahaha! Current fts
  15. Hi guys, I realised I haven't updated in a long time, but just to share, this tank has just been decommed. Just a few pictures before I start a new thread. This was during my command school days. This was when I was posted to unit somewhere in march. This tank has been my pride and joy and has let me learn many things about keeping a nano tank, alot of what I kept have been sold because I personally felt that I was not doing justice to the coral. But a few stuck with me throughout such as my mushies and zoas. But in the end I sold everything because ns really took up alot of my time and now that I've ord-ed its time to start again ^^ Post pictures of my new tank in awhile.
  16. Any news as to when they are going to be released to the general market or any specifications? The celestial looks amazing btw.
  17. Fish street also sells, not sure if include shipping will be cheaper than gemsurf but interested parties can go check it out Sent from my GT-N8020 using Tapatalk 2
