  1. It's a nice view of the corals but there's very little space for the clown to swim around.
  2. I know our sponsor Fresh 'n' Marine carries them.
  3. Patrick, The mat is turning light purple or dark purple? The gsp new growth is light purple and is an extension of the purple mat. It's good if it's indeed growing although I doubt it's growing so soon after introduction. Don't tear the new growth off unless you want to grow the frag elsewhere. In your case, I think you subjected your gsp to too much stress within a short time ie. you moved it and dipped in distilled water. They don't like too much disturbance. When newly introduced in the aquarium, find a spot with good light and flow and leave it there. It's common for it to remain closed for days to occasionally weeks, but once it gets used to the new conditions, it would gradually and eventually open up fully. If you move it thereafter, do expect it to close up again for a couple of days. You can try dosing iodine to see if it helps. Good luck.
  4. What is the purple stuff that you talked about? Are you sure it's not new growth? Did you move it or change anything or do anything unusual prior to the closing?
  5. Such incidents involving lps eating fishes are not frequent but it's not unheard of too. You should be wary when you have big mouthed lps eg. prata, elegance, and small fishes because the sweeping stinging tentacles of the lps are meant to immobilize prey and capture them as food for the corals, which happens mostly when the lights are turned off and particularly when the fishes venture too near to them.
  6. Just read that there is this new UFO looking LED lights for the nano and pico tanks up to 1.5 feet. Other than the shimmering effect of LED lights, the most noticeable feature is dimming of its white and blue lights (30 levels) and intensity setting, which allows users to digitally set it from 6,000 to 25,000k and for sunrise and sunset effect. It boasts to include high PAR lighting to grow Acropora corals too. However, at 18W, I have my reservations on its ability to keep sps and suppose it is only suitable for less light demanding corals like lps and softies. But if it's true, it's something worth rejoicing for the pico community. Apparently, it has a small footprint and is easy to mount onto the tanks too. I understand the retail price is around $170 here. Anyway, the website is shown below for your reference. http://cherrylumi.com/board/bbs/board.php?bo_table=eng_product_3
  7. Yes, you can set it to max and can get it from Dr Evil (Razali) from DeLightings, one of the sponsors here.
  8. You can only shift your corals only after cycling is complete although you can use some of the substrate medium, live rocks and water from the existing tank to seed the cycling to speed up the process.
  9. What's the brand, specifications and price?
  10. Nassarius snails love to burrow in the sand.
  11. Yes, nice clean tank with sleek look. With such a high bioload, running a phosphate reactor is the only sure way of keeping algae in check. You can supplement with a uv sterilizer too.
  12. The big ones are Palythoa or Protopalythoa, which are slightly different from Zoanthus (Zoas).
  13. The design looks interesting and how did you measure it as 10x10x10? Did you customize it for some purpose? I'm looking forward to see what you would be keeping in this pico.
  14. I have no experience with MH but I understand the heat is always an issue and bleaching occurs more commonly with it? Have you considered LED lights such as Maxspect?
  15. Can you share with us what T5 lights you are using (wattage, intensity, number of tubes)? I read in your 31 May 13 post that you were dosing Ca, Mg and Na. For a new tank, I feel you should stick with water changes. Dosing can come in later. Anyway, why did you choose to dose the 3? In fact, I don't think anyone doses sodium (Na), which is essentially salt (sodium chloride). Did you make a mistake?
  16. You have such words of wisdom that can only come from someone so experienced and respected in the forum. Your use of contrast in colour, growth form and habit to create a beautiful reef scape is brilliant. Thanks for the great advice.
  17. I'm new to the world of sps and love your sps dominated scape. Is that a big pocci at the bottom right? It's really gorgeous. Being a new sps reefer, I'm curious to know how you manage so many sps with such close proximity to each other? How much time do they have before they start to encroach into each other's territory? Separately, I'm sure your newly unearthed sps will recover fully in your good hands.
  18. Wow, your tank scape is amazing and inhabitants are all so gorgeous! By the way, did I see your harlequin on a seahorse?
  19. I think you are referring to the auntie shop and Pacific Reef (Ah Beng) behind?
  20. The purple and blue Zoas rock! I should have gotten some. Damned.
  21. Your sps show tremendous growth. Did anything change in your maintenance? The lighting does look different.
  22. I must say your corals have been in good condition as evident by their good growth. It's really unfortunate that you have to decomm your tank. I hope your mum gets well and your family situation improves. All the best to you.
