Rescaping - 3 feet(L) x 1.5 feet(W) x 2 feet(tank)

bro, is the pH and Alkalinity unusually high?

Hi Bro,

The correct parameters based from the article I read are as follows:

PH should be between 8.1 ~ 8.3

Alkalinity between 7~11 dKH.

I am still on my 6th day cycling the tank and will keep monitoring water parameters.

Based from this article: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-03/rhf/#9

"if the pH is above 8.5 and the alkalinity is not above 4 meq/L, then the aquarium is not fully equilibrated with carbon dioxide in the air."

But my alkalinity is above 4 meg/L, so i'm still reading more on this.

For alkalinity, I will start doing 5% water changes and continue to monitor.

Hope anyone can also provide inputs on this.

My 2 cents would be since ur on ur 6th day of cycle, just leave the tank be and don't test for anything until it's cycled and ready for corals :) the only variable u could test is ANN.

This way u could prolong ur test kit's life span. During this cycle, ur tank will naturally equilibrate itself. Dont be worried about other parameters. Only when ur Ammonia & Nitrite is 0, then best u do a WC then tweak other parameters such as Ca & Alk for corals and such.

Hope this helps. And cheers!

Your advice is great and I will be able to save alot for the other test kits.

I will take this by heart and proceed other parameter testings after ANN are 0.

Thank you very much!

At this point just test your Amonia till it drop to zero.

Then you test your NO2 till it drop to zero.

Lastly test your NO3 till almost zero

IMHO, do a 10% water change and adjust your PH to 8.3 or so before putting in any LS. Also, add LS minimally and not a sudden increase as this would create imbalance to the parameters again due to nutrients exporting and absorbtion.

Alk too high and mg a little low. I'll try to target 8-9 dkh and 1400mg

Try to watch out for your KH. Don't let it go up some more.

MG is way too low. Pump it up to around 1350

Do note..

That changing of water might also bring up ur Kh level

Kh Level is the most important in terms of mag..

If Kh level is screwed up..then u got problem in balancing mag and calcium

Kh, Mg and Calcium all stable except Nitrate..
