SRC Member PowderTang Posted September 29, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2014 I using salifert to test and Red Sea salt that says kh 7.7 and alk t2.8 meq/l Have been doing 10-20% water change twice this week with NSW Won't go down What makes it so high ? Used to add strontium, calcium, magnesium and pH 8.2 buffer, that's all.. Now I stopped adding any...hp I wonder what makes it so high? Will it affect my LPS ? SRC Member PowderTang Posted September 29, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 29, 2014 Forgot to add, My Ca was used to be above 500 so after do water change, it dropped to normal... Now just found out kh is high....
Nox
wow 500 is very high, did u over dose? i think wc is the only way to bring down the levels
SRC Member PowderTang Posted October 10, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted October 10, 2014 Ok I realized why it is high It's because I increase the pH using pH buffer. Yes now kh is reduced during water changes...but then I test pH again, pH dropped to like 7.8 ! If I increase the pH, the kh will increase again Anyone has come across this problem ? Or is there anyone with pH above 8 and yet kh is normal ?
Nox
My kh is at 9, ph varies 8.1-8.3. Kh and ph will increase together. For me the easiest way is to dose the 2 part solution (eg c-balance) to bring your ph and kh to the ideal level, no need to dose ph buffer. You can also try using kalk to increase ph and Kh together
tang_sohal
Can try dose kalkwasser which is around ph 12.4. it will help bring up your ph

Guest
Try to do a major water change and it should solve the chemistry imbalance problem.
