I believe it does not contain bacteria, but is actually a carbon/food source for denitrifying bacteria (Heterotrophic) consuming Nitrate. And also a food source for PHB’s (Phosphate Harbouring Bactria) working on reducing phosphate. Oh.. Okok.. Haha.. Learn something new..
