How Do Make Mushrooms Spilt???

try reading up on mushroom (sea, not land mushroom) propogation, if I'm not mistaken u can actually force it to split by either chopping it up (messy, I've tried) or using a rubber band tied around the shroom to make it split..

The natural way seems way too long.. I've one rock with 3 mouths, 1 of them already twice the size of 50cent coin but no signs of splitting...

not really, i had an accidental frag of less then 1 cent that splits to now 10 peices.....without using any forced propogation techniques.....

i think a lot have to do with the speices of the mushie also, as my green hairy mushroom only split once while the purple mushies mentioned have split lots of them already........

Chopping mushies up is a great experience for a beginner coral farmer

It might be messy but quite fun too

And I've also noticed that propagated mushies split really fast!! I had a red discosoma frag now having it's 5th generation

Erm wat does it mean by chopping??can any reefer explain?? ;)

i was hoping to spilt my orange yumas lo

you basically snip it off at it's base, then segment the piece into a few pieces (like a pizza) then stick em back...

I've tried it but to limited success...

Bro ervine, you only cut off the disk

The base will grow into a new polyp so the closer to the disk, the better.

And like you said, cut the disk into pizza slices and place them in a place of gentle water flow.

So far, I've had 100% success with mushroom propagation and with a little practice, everyone can do so too

I'm thinking whether you can actually rubber band them on a coral chip

Maybe I should try

yup some people have done that before.. but I think if you tie it too tightly it will cause the shroom frag to split where the rubber band is... which might in the end result in shrooms being blown away again

Just poke it through the flesh and into the chip

I've seen it done on LR before :D

hey .. is that the only way for the mushies to propagate ??

I found alot of tiny mushies growing in my tank now .. the original wasn't even a mushy rock .. just LR with 2-3 dying mushrooms ..

these new mushrooms are growing on my sandbeds ! :o

They probably come from budding

The most difficult corallimorph I've encountered by far are the yumas

They seem to like being solitary polyps
