s1214215
Hi Everyone Where can I buy these outlets fixtures for closed loop systems. I found pictures on another forum, but no one knows where to get them. Apparently they are popular in Japan. I have had no luck searching for them myself Brett

Achilles Tang
Ermmm... whats with aesthetics with the 'periscopes' in the tank?
s1214215
Hi I don't know if they can be got at in SG. I was wondering if anyone here knew. I am mainly after them as they look good. I wouldnt raise them as high as in the pics, having them lower to the DSB. I guess I could make something up myself, just easier to buy it of the shelf. SRC Member nakazoru Posted October 22, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted October 22, 2007 Wow, The periscope really makes the tank look like a underwater NASA project. A underwater naval base. Yes DIY shoud not be an issue, but the outlet must point upward. Otherwise operation sand storm. SRC Member kareen Posted October 22, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted October 22, 2007 one more pic Hi! A bit dump here... what is this thing? Is it just an outlet for flow? Or something special? Also, what are the vertical short poles in equal spacing doing there? Next pic shows them being buried.... Can't comprehen this.... Anyone? Maybe it works like under gravel but instead of s.u.c.king in the waste, it output water into the tank alternately.

s1214215
Hi Everyone I think you mean the clear perspex lifts you can see in the first pic. They are nothing to do with the closed loop. They are used by some reefers to raise the reef above the sand bed so that there are no dead spots and clear flow under the reef. They didn't do that in the second pic though from the look of it. I am just interested in the outlet vents on the closed loop. I think they look a bit neater than what I can do myself Brett
SRC Member BFG Posted October 22, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted October 22, 2007 A closed loop is where a pump is connected to pipes which provide flow where the owner wants it to be. You'll need a pump and some length of pipe for where you want to direct the flow to. Difference between this setup and a wavemaker like Tunze Stream are the way water flow are made. The pump draw the water from the main tank itself and not the sump.

s1214215
Thanks Everyone I am familiar how the closed loop system works and the continuous flow issue. I am looking to use more than one pump and a few scwd to make an alternating flow. I really am looking for the outlets shown in the pics as they look wider, with a broader flow than say a duckbill nozzle. I guess I will figure something out doing a DIY. I will post pics when I do. Many thanks Brett

s1214215
Many thanks to all for the input. I think I have to do a DIY as I cant source the nozzles - don't speak/read Japanese to search sites or have any Japanese speaking friends It seems these items are something used in Japan only. I checked some European and US forums with no luck either. I will see what I can source in Bangkok when I move there next week It is exciting to think about setting up a new tank Brett
