You might wanna consider using T5 or LED since yr tank is mainly LPS and softies. Then you will avoid this problem again when yr chiller suddenly goes down, while yr MH is cooking yr corals.

If you want shimmering effect just place a small fan below the T5...haha..it works for me.

Bro, sorry to hear about your lost. I think I've read somewhere that some reefers install temperature trip system whereby when things get too hot, it switches off the lights and a set of fans will switch on to cool things down in case the chiller breaks down. You might wanna consider this option.

Don't give up and come back even stronger! ^_^

l didn't know 6 tubes of T5 can boil yr corals...maybe you can consider 4 tubes of 54W? Shd be enough for LPS & softies right? Bro Peacemaker's suggestion think is worth exploring.

Bro XXX, that happen to me too in the past. Also with 6 T5 tubes in the past. Actually the heat not only comes from your T5 but also from your pumps and the rest of your equipments too. Worst still, is my itchy hand that turn off my chiller and forget to turn on and my tank running without a chiller over the weekend <_<

That is why I bought the temp probe from chill down after that. And I set the temp of the probe to 28 degrees so whenever the probe reads 28degrees, my lights will cut off by itself and my fan will be on blowing the surface of my tank.

If I'm not wrong it cost me S$300. But is worth it as I think your effort put in your tank and any priceless gem corals or fishes in your tank will cost much more than that!
