Weekly Update - 25th Jan to 01 Feb 2010

Recommended Posts

Lipogramma and carmabi market has always been monopolized by Japan because traditionally there's only been one atlantic collector Forrest Young (Dynasty Marine) catching these fishes and every year's catches will be sent to Japan so Japan has been actually constantly getting these fishes. However recent year other atlantic collectors have started into deepwater Caribbean collection (due to growing use of rebreathers) and that's why these small deepwater basslets are apearing in greater numbers in US and southeast asia and now hitting our shore (Reborn was offered an order of 5 carmabi's!!). More and other deepwater atlantic fishes like Spanish Flag, Bank butterfly, Roughtongue Bass will slowly appear in the market from now on, although their price will still be high. Yes and i think it's worth gg down to look at lipogramma klayi in person, the most expensive royal gramma!

YUP....Extremely RARE and EXPENSIVE fish... :eyebrow: Shipment now under processing. Probably will arrive late next week.

Pics and info from Reefbuilders:

lipogramma.jpg

Although the bicolor basslet may look just like a small and slightly paler royal gramma (and it really looks a lot like it superficially), this Lipogramma species is very rarely seen as it lives at depths of over 200 feet or 80 meters. In addition to having a purple-faced yellow body, the bicolor Lipogramma has a few scattered purple spots along the body, greatly elongated pelvic fins and a strong lyretail which gives this fish more a fairy like appearance than the similar royal gramma.

Will just get a royal gramma hahaha

Saw in the other forum that liopogramma klayi will only be brought in only if they have firm orders from a customer due to the high price of the fish...
