Haven't actually seen good claims of oyster shells over coral chips.

Aren't coral chips more porous have more surface area.

+1 for coral chip then.

Maybe TS would like to share his findings. Yes, much more exp than good grade live rocks.

My guess is that it is used to buffer PH cos shells are basically calcium carbonate. As for the cost per kg..... It'd better come with grade A pearls inside at that price :superman:

Oyster shell can be used as a good PH buffer, but it has to be throughly wash / clean and treated before being able to be used as a filter media.

Kiko, prices of goods depend on several factors like demand and supply, origins of goods and quality. But my guess is high overheads, cos it is not cheap to maintain multi nicks and buy a prepaid phone line for each :P

what advantages does oyster shell has over aragonite.... both made of the same material..... i dont think it does anything to marine tank..... proven that Shells/aragonite will not alter water chemistry in full strength Seawater....

Maybe CR media? hmm... thats something to think about ...

Perhaps more advantagous for F/w Tanganyika/malawi chiclids keeps.... ?

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.
