SRC Member RX_GAN Posted March 7, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted March 7, 2007 I have up to 5 tanks at home and they are all linked. I am a great supporter of reef tank. Now I am only keeping one reef tank and the rest are just running daily without any live stock. I'm new to Singapore Reef club but have been answering questions in Wetwebmedia forum for some time. normally I hang around foreign website and not locally. Until recently that I noticed we are lacking of Live Rotifers, zooplankton and pods. which is not a good practise. I am thinking of running my tanks to produce them and market it. But first of all, I will make sure that nitrate and phosphate level are low in the products. Quailty will certainly be of standard. If let's say I provide home delivery service to your house with monthly supply, will anyone be interested ? It's just that I have been answering questions and reading stuffs from america, when i come across my local forum, then I realise how backward we are. maybe it's time to change. Quote . X-Nature . SRC Member RX_GAN Posted March 7, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted March 7, 2007 To me, it's like running a lab at home. hahaha..it's a lab already anyway. I like the science behind all these reef and marine stuffs. If I am going to produce zooplankton and rotifers, I did it for the sake of science. Experimenting to produce good and better quailty. Singapore lack of some scientific lab and experiment with marine life. So I practically convert my home into a lab. Quote . X-Nature . SRC Member marinebetta Posted March 8, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted March 8, 2007 Sure....would be interested in nauplii of acartia tonsa, gladioferens imparipes, or other calanoid pods. However, may need numbers in the thousands daily when there are larvae to feed. I'm sure there are a number of other reefers who would be interested as well. SRC Member RX_GAN Posted March 8, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted March 8, 2007 Thanks guys for the response. But I won't be starting so soon because I wanna do my research to bring the quality up and the standard there. After all, Singapore is a country where ISO is so important. I don't want to be producing stuffs that just pass off as another lousy product. And certainly I will test them out in my own lab and my own livestock before releasing them into the market. Hopefully one day the American will say "Maybe we should get pods from Singapore." Hahaha..that'll be another achievement for our nation. Hurray. Any input or experience can be shared here so as to aid me in my research plan. Thank you so much. Quote . X-Nature . SRC Member RX_GAN Posted March 18, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted March 18, 2007 in fact, it's not only that we lack R&D in rotifers. We mainly lack R&D in captive-bred products. I have done a research and some link up with the USA side. It's rather surprising to know that we have such a great demand of marine fish and corals in spite of the small population. But sad to know is that so little ppl yet so many fishes...means ? It means lots of death... and it also means more capturing in the nature to supply for our needs. Those that are capture in the wild have low chance of survival.. due to feeding habits...transporting and handling...diseases. and all these caused problem in our tank. one fish died and the rest are affected resulting in more death. but...all the farms here are selling wild capture stocks becos of the low price and the high profit. sadly... but this business is getting better with better filtration system and more ppl entering into the hobby. I notice that more ppl are willing to spend their money on equipment and their prize keep. Have a big plan in the future. Hope can benefit and change the way it is. Are u guys comfortable in spending 20 bucks more to get a coral which is captive-bred ? Given the advantages like it doesn't carry diseases and it acclimate fast ? and also doesn't have transport prob. plus deliver right to ur doorstep ? The difference ? One is keeping a stray dog and try to tame it. While the other one is to get a trained dog. possible becos i dun see any singaporean keeping a stray dog now.hahahaha. Quote . X-Nature . SRC Member kareen Posted September 6, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted September 6, 2007 I have a little sugguestion for the live rotifers sale if there is going to be one.... Will it be better if the rotifer packing consist of some food (plankton) when ready for sale? especially if intended to be pickup from LFS.... My observation tells me that the rotifer population decline quickly without food... Jakuson
I would be great if live amphipods is being sold here in Singapore too. Like the Tigger Pods sold in the US that are used for replenishing or aid in the refugiums and stuff. I would really be interested in it if there is something like that. Just some suggestions for you to consider... Keep up the good work RX!

SRC Member RX_GAN Posted September 10, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 10, 2007 thanks for the suggestions. just something for u guys to take note. for plankton, rotifers and pods culturing, a lot of things are taken into consideration. the quality in concern. that's why X-Factor has went thru many testing and many ingredients have been tried individually to select the ones which provide the best result. during culturing of plankton, rotifers and pods, high NO3 and PO4 is often the result. to set up a good system for that and to ensure good population is the main concern before we consider bringing in tigerpods. from time to time, there will be ppl selling pods online or planktons and stuffs. but consumers pls take note that u could be adding in alot of NO3 and PO4 into ur own tank. we are working to ensure the proper way of culturing and handling to make ur money worth every cent. Cheers. Quote . X-Nature .
