  1. Hello Reefers! Iwarna is setting up a Display tank @ it's new show room! I know it's too early to post as we are still doing renovation but I CAN'T WAIT! So some pictures to share and I will try my best to find time to post pictures weekly on the progress of the tank. We will be using the TRITON METHOD OF REEFING for this new tank setup Iwarna's deepest tank for keeping SPS corals so fingers cross!
  2. Got this for my refugium but it turned out to be too powerful. Tested it for under a minute. Sun Sun HQJ 1000b. 1000 litres/hour at 12w $20

    DIY Sump Tank

Hi fellow hobbyists, I am very new to the marine tank set up. Currently running a seahorse only species tank with 2 canisters filter at each end for filtration. I have another FW tank which i intend to convert into a sump that will serve the seahorse tank but i am still kinda confused on the proper compartmentalization of the sump tank which i hope to include a refugium. Below is a draft sketch of the sump tank i intend to set up. Can fellow hobbyist provide some inputs/alterations as to where i should change or improve upon? Also, how do i know what pump size i should get for the tank? My DT tank is 126cm x 23cm x 38cm(height) with water volume of about 90 to 92 litres only. Intended sump tank dimension is 88cm x 17cm x 23cm (height) Hoping to get some valuable inputs. TIA
  4. Dear Reefers, need advice. Set-up I upgraded to a larger All-in-one tank 12.5g from IM Nuvo 10g. I have a) customized Media basket and b )the Minimax Innovative marine desktop reactor from my previous tank. I repurposed both to become two refugiums because I have the accessories (ie free) and why two refugium?:- because there is a seperator in the backchamber so it ended up with two. I installed the Chaetomax LED light 2 days ago and both share the LED light. A friend kindly provided me a pinch of Chaeto so I am all set. And today just bought some Tiger pods and added to both refugiums (this is for fun as I know I should have waited LONGER. Me bad.) Here is the question: the Minimax reactor is acrylic and transparent. Is it a good idea to place that into the AIO backchamber as a repurposed refugium? Will the "leaked" light cause the whole AIO chamber to grow algae??!!! Or because of the presence of the two lumps of Chaetos in their respective refugiums, they will take up the nutrients and the surrounding will be algae free? Reefer bros/sis with such similar experiences, please enlighten me. Thanks. (The Media Basket is black on 2 sides but the chamber is black so in essence there should be less light "leakage"). Or maybe it doesn't even matter? Or should i make a customized shade so that the Chaetomax LED light only shine on the two refugiums? Or i should get rid of the repurposed Minimax reactor and purchase another Media basket (like S$58!!!!) to prevent light leakage. You can see I need real HELP! Past Mistake I know what DOESNT work. In my old IM 10G tank, i saw Innovative Marine marketing this outside LED magnetic light. Use a razor to slice off the black lamination and shine a LED light through. And the video looks so cool. I had some empty space in the backchamber and I did exactly that and put some rough material in the chamber for the Chaeto to cling on. The result is the whole area become a sludge fest and the algae blocked the light and I had one extra area to clean. On hinsight, I should have used the Media Basket as a refugium instead of using the "free" space in the chamber. Too much work and fault is mine. Had I used the Media basket, it might have worked. Caveat I know there is a proportionate effective ratio between size of tank and the refugium size. Having two small refugiums might be pointless.. yes water change, yes good tank maintenance etc.. it is just hobbyist tinkering but at least I hope i can achieve optimal tinkering with my reefer bros' advice here. After all this is the joy of the hobby to experiment and see the outcome. Super thanks!!! Harry
  5. Hi, Can anyone pls explain about sump tank.. is refugium consider part of sump or it is actually one of many other different types of sump setup? Or can anyone direct me to refugium discussion in SGReef. Cant seem dig the topic. Can i just rely just sump tank with LR and sand + micro algae and some mechanical filter? Or just mechanical filter will do? I had cycle my tank for like 4mths and still empty tank with LR and 3inch sand. Added some bacteria and followed all instruction by the Henry from Marine Life. Will the bacteria dead as there is no food..lol Sorry for the lengthy post.
  6. Hi, I am new to this forum. This is my first time to have a sump which i am not sure whether the sump design is correct. Only got limited space therefore the size of sump would be 22" x 14" x 16". Skimmer: deltec sc 1350 internal protein skimmer Pump: Eheim Universal Pump 1250 x 2 Chiller: Not confirmed yet. Main tank: 30" x 18" x 18" Wavemaker: Tunze Nano Wavebox 6206 Light: not confirmed yet Draft some picture to show the concept, Please help to comment and give advise. Thank you.
  7. As above, selling at $20. Pm me if keen. Thanks.
  8. I just got my sump tank done with Refugium, I would like to ask wat sort of lighting is best for it? Led or t5? And do I need to on it the whole day or is there a timing when to off or on? Thanks
  9. Gd evening to all. Firstly this is my very first post in here after i finally register myself. I have done a quick read for the past few days but still clueless on certain stuff. FYI, im new to marine aquarium world. Started for like 4 months already. A brief timeline how i started back then when im still staying in JB before moving back to Sgp due to the former house on a full renovation process. 1) My fiancee wanted to keep "Nemo". So we end up at a LFS in Permas area that sell both freshwater & marine. We got a small tank (~14.13 Litres) from them together with a small hang on filter. Together with 1 inch deep of crush corals, 1/2 inch "big" grain sand, 1/2" "small" grain sand all layered starting from the crush coral. Both of us were told to purchase a bacteria in small bottle and saltwater from them. The best part is.. They never told us to buy LR, instead offer us to buy an anemone since my fiancee wanted a pair of nemo in the first place. (Blame me because we jump into this hobby w/o getting any info from the net beforehand) 2) Once back home, i help her to set up everything, after few hours running the filter, eventually all the dust & "crap" settle down on the "seabed". 3) Here come the best part: After we look at the water already "crystal clear", we throw both nemo and the anemone str8 in. (Genocide?) 4) We thought we successfully became a "marine hobbyist" that particular night since we saw both fishes swimming around "happily" near/on the anemone. Furthermore our room is air-conditioned 20 hours a day.. 5) Finale: After like almost 10 days, the 3 creatures wipe-out starting from the anemone. Moral of the story: Got back to the shop and ask why, all they said is they "forget" to offer me LR in the first place(but never explain in full details). Never mentioned about tank cycling, Nitrite & nitrate, Ph, Kh & etc. U know.. the basic fundamental/knowledge a reefer should know/possess. After like almost a month we start(1 more dead nemo/lps along the way), overstocking with LS(i totally forget the number and species) we move back to SG(read above). P.S: Im not always around since my work need me to go outstation.) Once back in SG, i surf the net to search for marine shop to purchase saltwater since i managed to bring the tank and LS together. The best part... i came across J.M @ CCK! I know i know.. i just read an old thread bout them in 2010-11 period earlier in the evening. So i decided to drive there to check it out. The first thing i was impress with their seahorse since i find them very mystical. So i thought they must be very professional in giving me advices. End up when i wanted to pay for a new small "gayish" hang on skimmer, the lady boss told me about their QSS. She knew i was a newbie with lil' info. (I got no time to do research since always away for work, remember i support financially my fiancee for this hobby, end up im the one who got hook into it till today) She told me the hang on skimmer is not for keeping marine system. So to sum it up... she recommend me to buy the smallest QSS in their range which is around 65litres. She told me to grab 2 kg of live sand, 2 jerry can of saltwater. I add up few stuff like turbo snail, harlequin shrimp and small red starfish & their "reefmax" bacteria. The phucking best part!! -> i never ask for a receipt.. the final cost was nearly $500!!! I was surprised since she told me the QSS was around ~$200. I know it is my fault since i never ask the list of price for the items which should be in the receipt. So as a newbie, i brought it back and proudly present it to my fiancee thinking that finally we have the best system around to finally keep her nemo alive.. I know it sound like a big joke. But after we get it, since we are damn newbie, the stuff really impress us. (u know lah, clear water, no more dead fish within 7 days.) After getting that QSS, i got myself some time to read a few info online(surprisingly not from here! ) regarding marine hobby. I was somewhat "enlightened" abit. So i scout around for some stuff like PH, Ammonia, Nitrate tester. That is when i bought myself a LPS, Zoas, seafan, acantha to share with the same tank with fiancee! Hahahaha. Here come the best part: After more reading & searching online, i think the QSS feel so small compared to those system with all the "piping work", refugium, "real" skimmer, & all those "zhim" equipment. I fell in LOVE with the "real system".. but i have ZERO knowledge about those stuff. END OF STORY: Im interested to know where & who should i seek to teach me how to do those kind of stuff? Can i still use the tank i bought from J.M w/o their QSS but instead use all those "proper" gadget with a sump/refugium(remember my 1st smaller tank) and chiller? Since i'll be moving back to JB in few months time so i dont need a bigger tank for now. Maybe once i obtained all the necessary infos and knowledge, i will decided to order a bigger tank in JB & upgrade all the necessary equipment. Im so sorry for this long winded "composition" but i rather be a slow learner compared to being a stuckup arrogant fellow for not asking question. Thanks for reading and i hope all the seasoned player help me out. I really want this marine hobby to last till the end.
