SRC Member starfish123 Posted August 28, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted August 28, 2012 you would do better with an ocean free nano tank. it is bigger, and you just pay a bit more.
SRC Member John Deroe Kenedy Posted August 28, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted August 28, 2012 no need chiller... for that amout of water, I'll use fan.. No need skimmer, regular water change is efficient. SRC Member JeffL Posted August 29, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted August 29, 2012 I kept a reef IQ5 before. If you have budget please upgrade the LED that comes with it, I don't think it is enough unless you just keep fishes. Since you want softies like rics, it is best you upgrade. Madpetz has par30/38 for your selection forget about the skimmer that Dymax makes for IQ5, I think you are better off with frequent water changes if you are using fan to lower the temperature, please take note the last chamber of your IQ5 evaporate fast and may overheat your return pump easily. So top up water frequently Tank is made of acrylic so it scratches easily, be careful when you do maintenance Quote 2 Feet Tank: (Decom Feb 2015)-Lightings : Pharos LED light 90W with wireless controller-Chiller : Arctica 1/10HP with H2Ocean Flow Pump 2000-Wavemaker : Vortech MP10ES -Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC 3.5-Return Pump : Eheim Compact 3000-Reactor – TLF150 (Mod) with NP Biopellet-Reactor – TLF150 with Rowaphos
Rukas
I have kept Mushrooms, Hairy Mushroom, ricordea, zoas, gornio,, clam, including 1 clown fish, 1 bangai cardinal and a flame cardinal and a blue legged hermit crab I have upgraded since, but i have only had lost due to being away and missed husbandry and some being attacked I had a Par 30 led light and i was crazy to hook my iq5 to a chiller(i couldnt work with the high evaporation using the fan) I have also had cut and peel of the side sticker of my iq5 to create a refugium, I had Chaeto in the filter chamber and had the stock light shining through the side to grow the chaeto. They use to grow really well and helped to a certain level with nutrient
SRC Member JeffL Posted August 29, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted August 29, 2012 Oh just to add, if you want a mini chiller I think the Iceprobe is perfect. I used it on the first compartment inserting the cooling stick downwards into the water. No need to mount, it can just rest on the edges. Can drop to 26 on certain days... but Iceprobe is difficult to find now, can try asking the usual suspect LFS like Reefdepot, Petmart Quote 2 Feet Tank: (Decom Feb 2015)-Lightings : Pharos LED light 90W with wireless controller-Chiller : Arctica 1/10HP with H2Ocean Flow Pump 2000-Wavemaker : Vortech MP10ES -Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC 3.5-Return Pump : Eheim Compact 3000-Reactor – TLF150 (Mod) with NP Biopellet-Reactor – TLF150 with Rowaphos
reckless
saw Iceprobe at Clementi Auntie shop. got some other nano chiller too. can go check it out. yeah... evaporation due to using fan is really really fast for that volume of water... zoa garden with just a hermit or shrimp would be fantastic piece of nature deco in the house Quote The Best Way Is To Keep It Simple. SRC Member Firestarter Posted September 13, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted September 13, 2012 I've been searching around for reviews on the iQ3/IQ5. Seems that majority of the owners have upgraded from their IQ tanks. Is the tank hard to work with given the size? Could someone provided the specific dimensions for both tanks? SRC Member illumnae Posted September 14, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted September 14, 2012 imo iQ3/5 are really small. I used to have one freshwater in my office, but have since upgraded to the Ocean Free 24 litre one. Was freshwater too but now in the midst of setting it up for marine. SRC Member sngolf Posted October 9, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted October 9, 2012 I Have a IQ5 and a currently cycling a Fluval Chi for Seahorses. I'm running a Fan on the IQ5 but requires at least top up of 250ml RO water everyday. Any bros out there can advise on how to use a common Nano JBJ chiller for both tanks?
