Danger of Re Scaping ???

Recommended Posts

  • SRC Member

Tank is with Sand Bed, Live Rocks for the past coming 2 years.

With fishes like Dwarf Angels, Tang and others...

Getting bored with the Scape ....

Wonder if it is possible to Remove all the Live Rocks and Put in New Live Rocks for a Brand New Scape ??? Will this major move poses Danger in water parameters and kill the fishes ??

Who is the LFS that is specialised in such drastic operation?

Really very tempted to do it .....

If do correctly, low chance of death

Well, i do think that if u wanna replace all the LR in ur system, u have to start cycling again... Removing will also remove the bacteria in it, hence placing in new ones will need time for bacteria to cultivate... Pro's, correct me if I'm wrong...

The purpose of starting a new tank and cycle it with live rocks is to help cultivate bacteria, remove dead living things in the rock, sponges etc.. It might be a possiblity when u remove ur current LR and replace it with new ones, ure Ammonia might spike up..

I disagree with Johnderoe slightly though, don't mind. IMO , if the live rocks are cured, high chances are that there is already a mature colony of bacteria, it should be able to handle to ammonia spike.

I'm not talking bout cured rocks...cured live rocks can be use, cured live rocks wont have dead sponges that that will cause ammonia spike...

To be on the safe side, try to retain as much of your liverocks if you can by placing it in

your sump. Use cured liverocks for the new ones, and keep at least 20% of your current liverocks in the display tank.

Thanks for all valuable pointers.

My Tank is with LR that is 'Normal'. Turn dull and dark after time.

I always love those tanks with 'Purple' Live rocks... I forgot the name of that algae.

As I am not the one who set up the tank and Live Rocks.. so I have to take what is given.

Hope to order from some experienced LFS or even passionate reefers to re set or re scape my tank. Admit that I am lazy plus no extra energy to travel up & down to source for the right shape or design of Live rocks.

Just dunno who to trust or go for... kind of lost..

Yeap... I read before about the Pricing of CF's LR.

Personally I like the Scaping of Similar to :

But the problem is my current tank is set up by Aquatechnic & it has a tall grey pipe for output of Water at the left end AND another bigger grey pipe at the right end of tank for the water to go into the system below. Therefore, you must 'cover' the grey pipes if you want the tank to look nice. Headache ....

U mean coralline algae...

If u want to get ur current rock to have coralline, look for a rock which have coralline on it, scrape some of it of, springkle all over the other rocks, or just add them to a highflow area so that the coralline can disperse. U need to have minimum Po4 level as high PO4 level denies coralline growth. after u get minimum reading of Po4, U can use coralline booster addictive to boost up coralline growth...

I also started with a few premium LR mix with Normal LR. Only few pieces of rocks have coralline in it. After getting my Po4 down, with the use of Red Sea Coral Pro and a help with Florida Aqua Farm Coralline Stimulator, my coralline have been growing crazy.. Now all my rocks are attached with coralline algae..

Visit sea life... Currently at ballestoer but moving to 107jln bukit merah by next month..

Rocks are cured, just got them at $6 per kg. I don't see any pest or many sponges on them and their rocks are files with purple coranaline algae. kudos
