Its good too cause it keeps debris suspended and out of the tank thru overflow. Of course it wont look so natural without the sand. If you are going full sps, then bare bottom is a better choice. I used to go for sand bottom but realised that after running a year or 2 later, maintaining it is a problem, esp when you overstock. which most of us do.And not to mentioned dead fished along the way. So I use a thin layer of coral chips which looks natural yet my tunze stream are able to circulate water all around it thus keeping detritus suspend until it goes into the overflow.
