some update of my tank since i started it BB about a amonth ago.

1st week, my tank experienced full diatom bloom. it covers almost everywhere.

2nd week, bought some snail to clean up the diatom. they are really hard working. less than a week, everything is being cleaned up. sometime i worry that they have nothing to eat... they poo a lot also

3rd week, my coraline algae started cover most of my new LR. some of my old rocks, all the hair algae disappeared (snails?) and it also being covered by the coraline algae too.

4th week, coraline algae started to grow on the base of my tank and all my powerheads and tunze(s). i have already tune down my CR a lot (less ca and kh output). since BB, my CR don't have to work so hard to maintain the demand of kh.

water parameters

ca: 520ppm (still high)

kd: 8.4-8.8

sg: 35ppt

ph: 8.11-8.27

temp: 26-27 deg celcius

p04: undetect

n03: 0.2ppm (still going down slowly)

snails only help me to clean the diatom. cos i have diatom bloom on the 1st 2 weeks. although my p04 read "colourless" but i believe my rocks leech out p04. it is so much clean now and i don't have to clean my glass very often

i have:

3xSeio 820: (3x3200 l/h) = 9600 l/h

2xtunze 6060: (2x6000 l/h) = 12000 l/h

return:

eheim 1262: 3400l/h (after head loss) = 2500 l/h

eheim 1262: (chiller to 2nd return) after head loss = 1000 l/h

total: 9600 + 12000 = 21600 l/h (internal circulation) + 3500 (return) = 25100 l/h

total tank vol + sump (estimate) = 400l

turn overrate: 25100/400 = 62.75

just enough to push all the fishes poop, snails poop, detritus and whatever things to the back of my tank. siphon them out once a week whenever i do my water change.

planning to add one more seio (clear the dead spot) and controllable tunze.

errr....not too sure about your calculation.....but i think 62.75 time is the rate at which water circulate in your main tank.....for turnover between the tank and the sump it shoud be 3500L/hor or slightly less then 10 times.....still i think its a much higher rate then mine....

paul, those flows are just enough to suspend the detritus (light weight) and let it flow into my overflow box. the heavier one will stay on the base.

Bro. try FW dip or Lugol Dip...

dont do FW dip..it will kill your monti also...lugols dip didnt help for me...i blow the nudis off using a sryinge and super glue the eggs...
