Hairy Crab - REMOVE THEM AT ALL COST !!!

Recommended Posts

Has been wondering why my 6 months plus acropora colony has been showing symptoms of STN by the tip... then recovered... then another tip STN.... for last 3 - 4 weeks...... still thought is due to imperfect water parameter, over dosing, lighting period, intensity, underfeeding coral food, etc.......

Finally tonight.... saw this culprit munching away the poly happily when i shine a red filtered touchlight at my acro after lights off for 3 - 4 hrs. Poor resident acropora crab can only watch him buffet defenselessly... At one time I even thot this bloody hairy crab is going to even eat up my acropora crab as his size is 2-3 time bigger(abt 1.5 inch)....... and he seems really hungry, naughty, angry and EVIL.......

Don't show mercy if you see this in your SPS tank !!! :pirate:

heehee.... I was lucky... :eyebrow:

He was standing directly on top of my acropora when i shone my torch into the tank.

Use torchlight with a red filter as they are insensitive to the red spectrum (from what I gathered somewhere in this forum to catch mantis shrimp)

It seem to work for crab too... I was shining my torch on it for a good few minutes to observe what the !@$#@ is he doing? There and then i saw his horrendous act!!!

Without delay.... I pull out my weapon and in grap, pull and extract him like a dentist pulling off the teeth of a patient.... haha  ... a little bit exaggerating but really did use force as he held on tightly to the acropora branch..... 1 and oni chance....

Somewhere in this forum also recommend using chicken essence bottle with bait which i believe will work....

Attached picture of my secret weapon.... haha... good luck in crab hunting...

I found mine in the main tank, and put in the sump. Become my sump clean up crew. Now so big already. I got no heart to kill it.

Kudos to you for saving a life.
